Huawei launches ICT Academy @ CoCIS
The Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and National Guidance, Hon. Frank K. Tumwebazewho was launching the Huawei ICT Academy in Uganda and flagging off the 2019 Seeds for the Future students at the Makerere University Guest House on the 14th May 2019, advised all universities to train students on becoming job creators and not job seekers by equipping them with practical skills before they graduate.
This he said would enable students to commercialize their skills and earn from them after campus.
Other notable guests of honor that attended the event included Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe (Vice Chancellor, Makerere University), Prof. Tonny Oyana (Principal, CoCIS), Mr. Liu Jiawei (Managing Director, Huawei Uganda), Mr. Chen Huixin (Deputy Chief of Mission, Chinese Embassy, Uganda), and Mr. Alex Kakooza ( Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Sports)
Huawei, a leading global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions providersigned a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Makerere University, College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS) to hostthe Huawei ICT Academywhere over 1000 students will receive training, and certification.
The Academy courses combine both theories and practical sessions ranging from Enterprise Networks such as Routing and Switching, Cloud computing and Big data among others.
Huawei also donated equipment worth 30,000USD and pledged to make a 15,000USD annual cash donation to the Centre for Innovations and Professional Skills Development (CiPSD) where the Academy will be hosted.
