Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if a student missed his/her exams due to health, financial and other problems? It has been noted that some students miss exams for some courses due to some reasons and at the time of registration in the semester when these course are next offered, they fill them under the section for retakes and consequently these appear as retakes on their print outs .
A course should be considered a retake when a student fails the course after merging the 40% of coursework and 60% of exams.
If the student does coursework and does not sit exams, that is not retaking. When such a student finally sits for the course it is taken as first sitting.
Therefore such courses should be registered in the section of the current semester and in bracket indicate first sitting.
All students who fall in this category should urgently come and see the Registrar in order to regularize their registration.
What is procedure on registration, payments and clearing to sit university examinations for graduate students?- Please refer to the communication on Registration for all graduate students from the Director School of Graduate Studies.
- This communication is meant to re-emphasize that you need to register with school of graduate studies and the Faculty.
- Most students after registering with Graduate school do not bother to register with the faculty.
- It has been noted that Graduate School normally registers students for a full academic year even when students have not cleared all payments and as a result some students never bother to clear payments.
- This semester the Faculty of Computing and IT is going to strictly implement the university policy on registration and examinations;
- No student will be allowed to sit examinations without being registered.
- No student will be allowed to sit examinations without clearing all university payments up to semester II 2005/2006 (This also applies to students sponsored by organizations).
- Points 6 and 7 are both compulsory, none of the two will be of help to the student without the other.
- After clearing your payments present your registration certificate (signed by both School of Graduate Studies and the Faculty Registrar) together with you receipt payments to Accounts section on level 2 for clearance to sit examinations.
- Please note that it is only the Vice Chancellor who can grant permission to sit examinations without clearing payments or registering.
You are encouraged to take this communication seriously to avoid last minute Disappointments.
What is the maximum load a student can offer in a semester? This goes to all students who had retakes to do in semester II and at Registration had been advised not to register for more that 25 CU.
Please be informed that after due consultations it has been clarified that a student can register for courses up to a maximum of 28 CU and that retakes should be registered for first.
In view of the above, I am writing to inform all those who were affected before this clarification to come and see the Registrar with their Registration forms so that we can rectify this problem.
What is the procedure on withdraw from studies? The policy on this matter stipulates that such students should apply to withdraw from their studies and resume when they are in position to fulfill the requirements.
Please note that this privilege only applies to students who are registered and therefore are bonafide students of the University.
You should address your application to Dean, Faculty of Computing and IT and attach evidence of Registration and payments for semester II in case you had already paid some money. Submit your application to Registrar's office on 3 rd Floor room 303
Let me also take this opportunity to emphasize to you all that you need to take registration seriously to avoid the may come up disappointments in the future.
