In its effort to establish effective research activities as well as enhance the research capacity, Makerere University through the Graduate School, has created budgets for:

1. Staff Development research funds particularly for Masters and PhD students
2. Publication funds for journals
3. Book publishing funds
4. Seminars funds (monthly)
5. Invited Lecture Series (Quarterly) for Eminent Scholars
6. Staff Research Fellowships for graduate students
7. Seed grants for new research ventures

The NetTel@Africa Scholarship

The NetTel@Africa Scholarship Programme provides promising practitioners from the private and public sector with tuition support to participate in the Postgraduate Diploma Programme in ICT Policy and Regulation.

Up to ten (10) scholarships are available for this Programme offered in Makerere University . The amount of the scholarship will be $1,300 for male students and $1,500 for female students. This funding is meant to cover tuition fees, instructional fees, computer/Internet lab fees, and a book allowance.

These scholarships are awarded through an application review process managed by the NetTel@Africa Executive Council.

Eligibility for scholarships

1. Applicants must be residents of Botswana , South Africa , Tanzania , Uganda , Zambia , Ethiopia , Kenya , Mozambique , Nigeria , Rwanda and Senegal .
2. Applicants must be able to meet the admission requirements for the course.
3. Scholarships are offered to priority populations, which include:
4. Regulatory and policy maker staff at mid- and starting-levels and
5. Change advocates and aspiring entrepreneurs from the ICT/telecom private sector.
6. At least 40% female recipients.

How to Apply for the Sponsorship

One must be nominated by his / her employer by 15 th July 2005 The nomination letter must be sent to the NetTel@Africa Coordinator Makerere University on official letterhead and signed by the CEO or equivalent.

Note: During and after participation in this program, the recipient of the award is expected to continue working for a period equal to or greater than the length of the award for the employer who provided the nomination. Otherwise, the recipient of the scholarship award is expected to renumerate the sponsor of the scholarship the full cost of the award.
