New Deputy Principal pledges to propel College forward

The new Deputy Principal of the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS), Dr. Agnes Rwashana Semwanga has promised to work with all College staff to move the College forward. We are going to tap into the recent grants won from NORHED, Spider and other funders; we shall also operationalize the various MOUs within the College and engage the incoming PhD holders who are ready to take up leadership positions within the College, she added after receiving the handover report of the outgoing acting Deputy Principal, Dr. John Ngubiri.

Dr. Rwashana, who will substantively take over office on 1st August, 2013 for a period of four years reiterated her commitment to serve the college. If you have any problems come into my office and we have a discussion, but also come with solutions, she added after promising to maintain an open-door policy.

This function was presided over by the Acting Principal, Assoc. Prof. Constant Okello-Obura and witnessed by an official from the University's Internal Audit unit and members of the College management team.

Assoc. Prof. Obura who becomes the substantive Principal on 1st August, 2013, also thanked the College staff for entrusting them with the leadership of the College and pledged to ensure teamwork, create harmony and implement a consultative decision making process.

Dr. Ngubiri thanked the University management for entrusting him with the opportunity to serve as Deputy Principal from January 2011 to April 2013; he also acknowledged and appreciated the support of the College staff who have worked with him. I would like to thank all the people I have worked with on this noble task. I am proud of their contributions and I am happy about what we have achieved, he said.

Dr. Ngubiri will now concentrate on teaching and research in the Computer Science department within the School of Computing and Informatics Technology.

He called upon the new management team to devise means of retaining senior staff members, operationalize the Makerere University node of the Pan African University and streamline research within the College.
