Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology (Information Technology Option)

The Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology is a two-year full-time privately sponsored programme open to all applicants that meet the minimum requirements for the diploma programmes at Makerere University. This programme introduces computer science and information technology and other related areas and forms a solid basis for someone wishing to pursue a career in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or any other related field. The majority of the Diploma in Computer Science and Information Technology holders are expected to take up positions such as Web Designers, Web Administrators, Database Administrators, System Administrators, Network Administrators, IT Managers, and Programmers. Other diploma holders can take up further studies leading to a degree award in areas such as Computer Science and Information Technology. 

Objectives:

  • Provide qualifying candidates a chance to take the Diploma in Computer Science and IT.
  • Develop personnel with theoretical and practical skills through hands on training in Computer Science and IT.
  • Produce diploma holders in the Computer Science and IT discipline.

Graduation Requirements:

To qualify for the award of the degree of Diploma in Computer Science and IT (Computer Science option) a candidate is required to obtain a minimum of 73 credit units for courses passed (51 credit units for Core courses and 22 credit units for Elective Courses).

To qualify for the award of the degree of Diploma in Computer Science and IT (Information Technology option) a candidate is required to obtain a minimum of 73 credit units for courses passed (47 credit units for Core courses and 26 credit units for Elective Courses).
