CoCIS Connect Kicks off

The long awaited CoCIS Connect Exhibition with the theme: From Invention to Innovation was lauched on 26th March 2015 by the Director ICT at Uganda Police Force Mr. Amos Ngabirano who was welcomed by the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu and the CoCIS management and staff led by Deputy Principal Dr. Agnes Ssemwanga.


Mr. Ngabirano was exited to launch the exhibition and this is what he to said “With what you have exhibited here today, I am now sure of three things – the academia, young people and ICTs are a critical component to enabling us achieves the task ahead of us. Your innovations in the areas of health, agriculture, security, safe water management, education and e-business are very pertinent components of our strategy towards transforming this country.”

The Vice Chancellor Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu in his remarks echoed the committement of Makerere University to quality high education to students. “The spirit of innovation and resilience exhibited by these students here today highlights their entrepreneurial acumen which we as a university are trying to instill in them in order for them to be able to create employment for themselves” he said.

Studying at CIT

CIT offers a wide range of programmes ranging from PhD, Masters, Postgraduate Diplomas, Bachelor Programmes, undergraduate diploma to certificates in computing and ICT related fields. In its firm commitment to address the needs of society, CIT conducts research in the Computing and ICT areas such as Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Data Communications and Computer Networks and ICT for Sustainable Development.

CIT uses a range of teaching methods and tools that combine theory and practice that produces a breed of competent human resource that meets changing ICT needs of our society. In this section therefore we give information on how to study at CIT.

Choosing a place to study is an existing yet a difficult decision. We are pleased that you are considering Makerere University School of Computing and IT (CIT) for your study. CIT is one of the many Faculties at Makerere University. CIT is often referred to as a one-stop centre for training, research and consultancy in computing, ICT and other related areas and is ranked high in Sub-Saharan Africa. With competent, qualified and motivated staff, CIT is positioned as the fastest growing school in the region. The number of students applying to join the school, the support from partners in the North and the growing number of collaborations with leading Universities and organizations in the world exhibits this fact. Plans are underway to have CIT transformed into a College of Computing and Internet Technologies by 2008.
