ACADEMICIANS URGED TO DIVERSIFY SEARCH FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

By: Jacky Achan

Stenden University Senior lecturer, Dan Musinguzi has called on international scholarship seekers to diversify their area of search to stand a chance of winning funds  needed to cover for further education.

Dr. Musinguzi who is based in Quatar, on Tuesday tipped a number of scholars who had gathered at Makerere University College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS) for a workshop focusing on real success for youth.

“Knowing the different types of scholarships is very important. If you know the type which range from academic, athletics to creative among the several scholarship categories that exist, you can get to apply for those that are friendly, meet your needs and not very competitive to win,” he says.

Dr. Musinguzi however warned participant’s against falling prey to scholarship scammers, mostly on the internet.

“They always make promises that are too good to be true. To get a scholarship you have to go through the entire process yourself because it is all about you and your passion,” he explained.

He urged the participant’s to subscribe to different scholarship search engines to receive genuine scholarship openings that one can apply for and win, minus the involvement of middlemen.

Dr. Musinguzi also took the participants through the process of writing a CV. The workshop organized by Focus Consulting Agency Ltd.

Lydia Komugisha the Principle Consultant at Focus Consulting Agency Ltd tipped the participants on how to prepare for job interviews. Participants were drawn from Makerere University and other higher institutions of learning.
