A team from the National Council for Higher Education, NCHE, is to visit the different proposed Colleges of Makerere University for a week starting 14th March 2011. The College of Computing and Information Sciences, COCIS, will be one of the Colleges to be visited. COCIS is made up of the School of Computing and Informatics Technology (CIT) and the East African School of Library and Information Science (EASLIS).

The NCHE team will among other things inquire about the advantages of the proposed collegiate university system, establish the availability of academic and administrative staff, and recommend to council whether or not the proposed constituent colleges should be established. The NCHE is mandated to regulate and guide the establishment and management of institutions of higher learning. It looks into the quality of higher education, equating of qualifications and advises government on issues of higher education.

Makerere University as a Collegiate University will see power decentralized to colleges in administrative and academic affairs. Colleges, as approved by Senate, are to take full effect in July 2011 and a number of internal processes are ongoing to beat this deadline.
