I am  pleased to extend a personal welcome on behalf of our students, faculty and staff to the Department of Networks,  School of Computing and Informatics Technology, Makerere University.  The department is both a research and teaching unit that strives to be one of the leading research centers and offer outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate training.

As a research unit, the department seeks to achieve the highest levels of distinction in the discovery and dissemination of knowledge and innovations. The department’s graduate programmes offer a variety of master tracks in Data Communications, Mobile Computing and Software Engineering all tailored to suit the ever evolving community needs and life long learning. We have a strong team, some of our staff have over 15 years of research and development in their fields specialization as researchers and academic staff in various world classed institutions.

As a department, it is in practice and commitment to excellence that we have positioned ourselves among the best in the world. At the department of Networks, students experience the real world of networking and software engineering from the start and our case-led plus hands-on approach emphasizes the environment within which the graduating engineer will practice. Backed by modern teaching methods and new technologies, the department is home to the several National Research facilities including the National Software Incubation Center.

Alongside this, the department has vibrant international research collaboration with peers in Africa, Europe Asia and internationally recognised bodies.  Much of the research is geared to practical issues: translating research into high quality computing, finding means of eliciting society needs and enabling the best decisions that allow high returns on investment for clients.
