The College of Computing and Information Sciences, COCIS, has started implementing the process of College formation. Colleges, as approved by Senate, will take full effect in July 2011 and the time is right for initial implementation processes to begin. COCIS is made up of the School of Computing and Informatics Technology (CIT) and the East African School of Library and Information Science (EASLIS).

Makerere University as a Collegiate University will see power decentralized to colleges in administrative and academic affairs. COCIS will be efficiently run through College and School Committees. It will have a curriculum review to tailor the course units to industrial needs, and also focus on more research output
