I received a BA in Computer Science from the University of Cambridge in 2000, and my PhD from the University of Edinburgh in 2007 (studying in the Institute for Adaptive and Neural Computation, School of Informatics). I have also spent time working in the London offices of a large IT consultancy (by some measures, the week I started work was the exact peak of the dot-com boom), a medical monitoring systems company, the HQ of a medical emergency relief organisation, and the neonatal unit at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. I am originally from Inverness in the North of Scotland.
I was interviewed about African computing research for the Edinburgh University EUSci podcast, July 2009.
There is a short piece about African computer science and me on IEEE Spectrum, Jan 2008.
